My father's family, Ramsland-Larson, homesteaded in Sims and my dad, Webb Bateman, grew up in Almont and New Salem, although he and his brother Ray left to join the circus in 1925. My book, The Road to LaReta, a Novel based on my dad's life in the 1920's and 30's is available on Amazon Books and will be available soon as an eBook.

I am a descendant of Erick Rasmussen Kilen and Johanna Endresdatter Kilen, who immigrated from near Luster Norway in 1858, and whose son Anders founded Lakefield MN in 1879. It's good to know that other Kilen family were involved in founding US communities.

I am interested in sharing information about our family and history with other descendants of the Kilen family, and especially with Mark Esser, as he has the best history of the family's Norwegian history that I have seen.

My wife and I have recently moved to SC between Charleston and Columbia, and are building a homestead farm, which we call "Kilen Liten Gård" (roughly "Little Kilen Farm".

My wife and I visited Almont on Labor Day 2014. I took a lot of pictures of the parade. I have posted them on Facebook, and if someone wants print quality files, no problem and no charge. We had a very nice time that day and look forward to coming back again.

My father Ken Tischler was born in Flasher, North Dakota in 1928. He left for Portland Oregon at the age of 15. He doesn't remember much about his grandparents John and Marie Tischler. John Tischler started the "Tischler Hotel" in ALmont, North Dakota. It has been very interesting to read about the history of Almont. I want to bring my dad next year to check out the towns around Flasher and Almont. Thank you for making this history available online. Sincerely, Michelle Piazza
